We’re Transition Highbury

A group of local citizens working to help each other, and others, to live more sustainably.

We believe local action on climate and environment is one important response to the climate crisis. When we, as a community, work together, we can help show the way forward for governments, business and communities.

We are linked to the Transition Network – which has community initiatives around Britain and across the world – and to Friends of the Earth who run Climate Action groups all over the country.

So why not join us?

What we do

Meetings

Our meetings are how we collect and share ideas for a more sustainable Highbury. They’re open to all, and can be the first step if you want to be more involved in what we do. Join our mailing list to learn about upcoming meetings. But if you want to be involved and can’t wait until the next meeting, drop us a line at info@transitionhighbury.org.uk

Local action

We’ve developed a guide for how you can live more sustainably in the Highbury area. Check out the list of 8 things you can do, which includes getting involved and taking action. And if anything is missing, let us know.

Green on the Screen

We’re big believers in the power of film to help us engage with why and how to act on climate. So from time to time we organise free documentary screenings. Previous films we’ve shown include This Changes Everything, Cowspiracy, and More Than Honey. Join our mailing list to learn about screenings.

Transition Highbury Community Garden

For over a decade, Transition Highbury has been growing fruit and vegetables in a plot in the grounds of Christ Church, 155 Highbury Grove, London N5 1SA. There are usually two work days a month. Volunteers are welcome! For more information, please contact info@transitionhighbury.org.uk.

Composting Project

In 2021 Transition Highbury began an exciting new compost project at the Community Garden with support from Islington Council. Waste food from local cafes and woodchip from local tree surgeons is turned into compost, and the compost feeds the soil in the community garden, and the fruit and vegetables grow bigger and stronger. It’s a great example of the circular economy in action!
